The position of a Artisan Baker involves the creation and embellishment of cakes, tarts, pastries, and custom orders. You will utilize your creative talent to build and finish all specialty bakery goods, making certain that every detail is executed flawlessly.

Your responsibilities as a Artisan Baker will require you to create baked goods that are consistent with our brand image and quality standards, as well as support the front of house team in delivering exceptional customer service.

Promoting notable companywide, regional, and store programs and initiatives is an integral part of the job, and as such, it is important to ensure strict compliance with all relevant Food Safety and compliance duties required in the department while supporting our Core Values and objectives.

Job Responsibilities:

  • Put together, occupy, and improve bakery products, cakes, and tarts as specified by the customer.
  • Maintain ample product by modifying production sheets after completing production and spoilage records according to standardized procedures.
  • Prioritize the production inventory and recommend any adjustments as needed.
  • Flaunt the merchandise tastefully and exhibit them in the sales display to satisfy and enjoy potential clients. Inspect product quality to ensure their freshness and adhere to the correct protocol for rotating the products within the showcase.
  • Pair apprentices with experienced decorators as mentors. This will provide a valuable learning opportunity and help build teamwork.
  • Conceptualize unique cake ideas that reflect the customer’s personality and vision, elevating their celebration to a new level.
  • Deliver prompt and effective customer service that exceeds customer expectations by utilizing suggestive selling methods, responding promptly to phone calls and pages, and catering to their needs swiftly.
  • Maintain or guarantee the sustenance of an unpolluted and sanitised workspace and shopping precinct; stick to Whole Foods Market's regulations and safety rules to ensure the equipment remains in excellent condition.
  • Ensure the business day starts, continues, and ends smoothly by fulfilling the assigned duties with precise signage and pricing.

Skill Requirements:

  • Possessing advanced cake and pastry decorating skills, with command over intermediate-level piping techniques and a unique ability to design attractive floral patterns and delicate borders.
  • To produce visually appealing buttercream creations that will attract consumers, one must know about color palettes and how they work.
  • The capacity to apply various kinds of frosting properly, such as Swiss Buttercream, American Buttercream, Ganache, Cream Cheese Icing, Whipped Cream, Chantilly, German Chocolate Icing, Fudge Icing, and multiple Meringue variations, is an indispensable proficiency for any pastry chef.
  • Effective time management and organizational skills are necessary when combined with the ability to follow recipes, directions, and procedures.
  • Updated safety tips for operating equipment, tools, and knives.
  • When converting between Celsius and Fahrenheit, you should know the formulas for each. To convert C to F, multiply by 9/5 and add 32. To convert F to C, subtract 32 and multiply by 5/9.
  • A great team member possesses excellent communication skills and a willingness to work alongside others.

Experience:

  • Retail or restaurant experience of 6-12 months minimum is a requirement.
  • Meet the qualifications of concluding the Bakery Decorator Apprentice course or gaining analogous practical knowledge.
  • Having prior experience in a bakery or supermarket is favorable.

  • Proficient in managing work responsibilities in both wet and dry situations.
  • The post requires candidates to be open to flexible scheduling that might involve working on weekends, holidays, or night shifts.
  • Mastery in handling and operating knives, box cutters, electric pallet jacks, and other heavy tools and equipment.
  • Ladders could potentially be required.
