As a Bakery Assistant, you will be in charge of all responsibilities connected with the production and decoration of cakes, pastries, tarts, and other specific orders. You will employ your artistic prowess to construct and refine all unique bakery items, ensuring that all aspects of the product are faultless.

You will be in charge of the most critical aspect of the bakery, as you will be responsible for ensuring that the final products are aesthetically appealing and of superior quality.

There is a need to enforce strict adherence to all applicable Food Safety and compliance responsibilities necessary in the department to promote companywide, regional, and store programs and initiatives, as well as support our Core Values and objectives.

Job Responsibilities:

  • Produce, stuff, and embellish bakery items, tarts, and cakes that are tailor-made.
  • Employing established procedures to construct, frost, and decorate bakery goods to meet business demand.
  • Set production priorities and suggest any necessary changes to the list.
  • Present the products in an appealing manner and exhibit them in the sales showcase to please and captivate potential customers. Inspect the quality of the products to maintain their freshness and comply with the standard procedure for rotating the products within the display case.
  • Utilize training materials, such as manuals and videos, to help apprentices learn new techniques and skills.
  • Build cake creations that emphasize every part of the event, from the decor to the color scheme, in order to make the cake stand out.
  • Meet your customers' needs proficiently by providing superior customer service. Use suggestive selling techniques, pick up phone calls and pages quickly, and respond courteously to turn their experience into a memorable one.
  • Ensure that a sterile and wholesome working and shopping milieu is maintained consistently; comply with Whole Foods Market's cleanliness and safety procedures to maintain the equipment in good condition.
  • Perform the designated tasks at the opening, mid, and closing of the business day, ensuring the accuracy of the prices and labels.
  • Undertake extra tasks as assigned.

Skill Requirements:

  • Equipped with superb cake and pastry decorating skills, including proficient knowledge of intermediate-level piping techniques and a flair for fashioning striking floral ornaments and adorned borders.
  • Good color coordination ensures that your buttercream treats will look visually appealing and attractive to customers.
  • To become an adept pastry chef, one must possess the skill to appropriately utilize all kinds of frosting, including Swiss Buttercream, American Buttercream, Ganache, Cream Cheese Icing, Whipped Cream, Chantilly, German Chocolate Icing, Fudge Icing, and countless types of Meringue.
  • The ability to follow recipes, directions, and procedures is important, as is the capacity for effective time management and organizational skills.
  • Skills and knowledge required for practising advanced knife handling and ensuring equipment safety.
  • Adding or subtracting fractions is another math skill that can come in handy when modifying recipes. For example, if you have a recipe that calls for 3/4 cup of sugar, but you want to use only 1/2 cup, you will need to subtract 1/4 cup from the original amount.
  • The ability to communicate effectively and work well as part of a team are important traits.
  • The art of conveying messages in a clear and respectful manner to fellow team members, customers, and vendors is essential.
  • In every interaction with vendors, customers, and colleagues, it is important to maintain high-level customer service expectations and standards.
  • Displaying a diligent work ethic and the ability to cope with a speedy work environment while maintaining a sense of urgency.

Experience:

  • Applicants with 6-12 months experience in retail or restaurant are preferred.
  • Satisfy the criteria of undertaking the Bakery Decorator Apprentice program or holding comparable proficiency.
  • Applicants with a history of working in a bakery or grocery store are preferred.
